KB15358 - "Provisioning failed (error 1012)" error when attempting to provision the BlackBerry smartphone
Environment
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server
- BlackBerry smartphones
- Sprint® wireless network
Overview
You attempt to provision a BlackBerry smartphone associated with a wireless service plan from Sprint and the following error message appears:
Provisioning failed (error 1012)
Note: This issue occurs when the Allow Other Browser Services IT policy is set to False and the BlackBerry smartphone has been activated on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (using a USB connection to the computer hosting the BlackBerry Enterprise Server or running BlackBerry® Desktop Manager) prior to provisioning the BlackBerry smartphone on the Sprint wireless network.
Cause
The Allow Other Browser Services IT policy is set to False. By design, this impedes provisioning because it blocks the following service books and records: Wireless Application Protocol (WAP), Wireless Profiled Transmission Control Protocol (WP TCP), non corporate Internet Protocol Proxy Protocol (IPPP), and BrowserConfig.
Resolution
Provisioning fails by design.
Workaround
To prevent this issue, complete one of the following:
- Turn on the wireless transceiver on the BlackBerry smartphone, and start provisioning the BlackBerry smartphone before activating it on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
- Activate the BlackBerry smartphone on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server that does not have the Allow Other Browser Services IT policy set to False. Once the BlackBerry smartphone is provisioned with the Sprint wireless network, set the IT policy to False.
If these workarounds do not prevent the issue from occurring, contact the wireless service provider.
