Task 3 - Make Applications Available
  1. Type cd :\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Apploader at a command prompt.
  2. Type loader.exe /index (use reindex if the BlackBerry Enterprise Server has prior software configurations). The application loader tool builds the software index structure in the network drive and adds any missing index files.
  3. Share the Research In Motion network drive and set the permissions to Read-Only.
Task 4 - Create a Software Configuration for Enterprise Messenger
  1. In BlackBerry Manager, click BlackBerry Domain in the left pane.
  2. On the Software Configurations tab, click Add New Configuration.
  3. In the Configuration Name field, type a name (for example, Enterprise Messenger).
  4. Click Change.
  5. Type the location of the software in Universal Naming Convention (UNC) format and click OK.

Note: The Universal Naming Convention (UNC) of the shared directory uses the format \\\Research In Motion
  6. In the Application Name list, select the BlackBerry Enterprise Messenger for LCS check box.
Task 5 - Assign the Software Configuration through a USB Cable
  1. Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer using a USB cable.
  2. In BlackBerry Manager, select a BlackBerry Enterprise Server name in the left pane.
  3. In the User list, select the BlackBerry smartphone user account to which the software configuration must be assigned.
  4. In the lower pane, expand Device Management.
  5. Click Assign Software Configuration.
  6. Select Enterprise Messenger, and then click OK.
Task 6 - Assign the Software Configuration Wirelessly
Towirelessly assign an application to a BlackBerry smartphone, the version of BlackBerry® Device Software supported is 4.0 or later and at least 16 MB of flash memory needs to be available.
  1. In BlackBerry Manager, click BlackBerry Domain in the left pane.
  2. On the Software Configurations tab, in the Configuration Name list, click Enterprise Messenger.
  3. Click Edit Configuration and expand the application.
  4. Select BlackBerry Enterprise Messenger for LCS.
  5. Click Wireless in the Delivery drop-down list, and then click OK.
  6. Select the BlackBerry smartphone user under the Users tab.
  7. Expand Device Management and select Assign Software Configuration.
For more information on wirelessly deploying applications from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, please refer to KB03748.

Additional Information

The BlackBerry® Messenger client is also located in the instant messaging (IM) folder on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software installation CD (Research in Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.1.x\IM).
The following files are included on the CD:
  • Lcs.zip - Used for deployment through a software configuration in BlackBerry Manager
  • Oc.zip - Used for deployment through a software configuration in BlackBerry Manager
The Lcs.zip file should be used if your LCS server is using Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) or Transport Layer Security (TLS). The Oc.zip file should be used if your LCS server is using HTTP or HTTPS. Only one of these clients can be installed on the BlackBerry smartphone.
Recommendation

BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.1 with the BlackBerry Instant Messaging Connector for LCS should be installed and configured before deploying the software to BlackBerry smartphones. For more information, please refer to KB13530.
