KB00073 - The service did not start due to a logon failure 1067
Environment
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software versions 2.1 and 3.5
- Microsoft® Exchange
Overview
When you start the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, the service fails to start, generating Error 1067, as shown below:

Cause
There are multiple causes for this error:
- The BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account is not a member of the local Administrators group.
- When using the Edit BlackBerry Enterprise Server Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) Profile utility for BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 2.1 Service Pack 3a, the authentication type or Logon network security is None by default.
- The Domain Naming Service (DNS) search order is incorrect or the DNS entry is pointing to an incorrect BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
- The BlackBerry Database Consistency Checker, for BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 3.5, has been started manually or is set to start automatically.
- There was a change to Daylight Saving Time (DST).
Resolution
Complete the appropriate resolution for your cause.
Cause 1
The BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account is not a member of the local Administrators group.
Resolution 1
Add the administration account to the local Administrators group.
- Stop the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service.
- Add the administration account to the local Administrators group.
- Log off of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server and log back on.
- Start the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service.
Cause 2
When creating the MAPI profile, with the Edit BlackBerry Enterprise Server MAPI Profile utility for BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 2.1 Service Pack 3a, the authentication type or Logon network security is None by default.
Resolution 2
Edit the BlackBerry Enterprise Server MAPI profile.
- Go to Start > Programs > BlackBerry Enterprise Server > Edit BES MAPI Profile.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- From the Logon network security drop-down list, select NT Password Authentication.
- Click OK to close the Microsoft Exchange Server window.
Cause 3 The DNS search order is incorrect or the DNS entry is pointing to the incorrect BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
Resolution 3
Modify the DNS search order to point to the correct DNS server.
Cause 4
The BlackBerry Database Consistency Checker for BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 3.5 has been started manually or is set to start automatically; however, a Mobile Data Service Push Server has not been configured.

Resolution 4
Stop the BlackBerry Database Consistency Checker and restart BlackBerry Enterprise Server service.
Cause 5
There was a change to Daylight Saving Time.
