KB17459 - "This function is unavailable because the Mailstore Adaptor DLL has failed to initialize" error when attempting to add a user to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server


Environment

  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software version 4.1 for Microsoft® Exchange
  • Microsoft® Exchange



Overview

The administrator tries to add a new user to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
When this functions is performed, the following error message is displayed:
This function is unavailable because the Mailstore Adaptor DLL has failed to initialize.
As well, the BlackBerry Manager log file (MNGR) displays the following information:
[20000] (02/04 18:31:17.042):{0x1AE0} [ExchangeAdaptorDLL::Initialize] Failed in GetProfileName, result=0x80040113.
[20000] (02/04 18:31:17.042):{0x1AE0} Mailstore Connector failed to initialize; some functions may not be available.



Cause

Cause 1
The BlackBerry Manager MAPI profile does not exist.
Cause 2
The BlackBerry Manager MAPI profile is unreadable.



Resolution

Resolution 1
When launching the BlackBerry Manager, you will be prompted to create this profile. Fill this information in before continuing.
Resolution 2
Delete the existing MAPI profile and recreate it by following these steps:
1. Close the BlackBerry Manager
2. Open the Registry Editor
3. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles
4. Under Profiles, right click on BlackBerry Manager registry key and export it so there is a backup.
5. After it is done exporting, delete the BlackBerry Manager registry key
6. Open the BlackBerry Manager again and recreate the MAPI profile when prompted.
