Default KB18526 - Adding groups from Active Directory into Administrative Roles

KB18526 - Adding groups from Active Directory into Administrative Roles

Environment

  • BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 5.0
  • SDR337355

Overview

In versions 4.0 and 4.1 of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, administrators had the ability to assign groups from Active Directory to SQL. Since BlackBerry Manager uses SQL accounts to login, this provided the ability to assign Active Directory groups to Administrative roles in the BlackBerry Domain.
In BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0, this functionality no longer exists.

Cause

Due to the architectural changes in 5.0, administrators no longer authenticate directly with SQL. Administrators authenticate either through BlackBerry Administration Service, Active Directory or Domino Mailbox. Since that is the case, we do not have the ability to add Active Directory groups to Administrative roles in the same fashion.

Resolution

This is a previously reported issue that has been escalated internally to our development team. No resolution time frame is currently available.

Workaround

Add users individually to administrative roles.
