KB14647 - "Function open message store failed" when configuring synchronization
Environment
- BlackBerry® Desktop Software
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server for Microsoft® Exchange
- Microsoft® Outlook® 2003
- Microsoft® Outlook® 2007
Overview
When configuring an application for synchronization in BlackBerry Desktop Manager, you receive the following error message:
Function open message store failed
Cause
The Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) profile, which facilitates data communication between Microsoft Outlook and the Microsoft® Exchange server, has been configured to use the Cached Exchange Mode feature. When this feature is turned on, Microsoft Outlook creates a local or duplicate copy of your mailbox on your computer. At times, this causes the synchronization feature of BlackBerry Desktop Software to try to read data from a .pst file instead of from the mailbox where your data is stored.
Resolution
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
- Create a new MAPI profile. For instructions, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article 829918.
Note: when creating the MAPI profile, be sure not to select the Use Cached Exchange Mode check box in the Exchange Server Settings window.
- Configure BlackBerry Desktop Software to use the new MAPI profile. For instructions, see KB03650.
