Default KB16470 - Browsing fails to function correctly when using PAC files for proxy config

KB16470 - Browsing fails to function correctly when using PAC files for proxy configuration

Environment

* BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software version 4.1 Service Pack 6 (4.1.6)

Overview

PAC (Proxy Auto Configuration) files fail to function correctly when configured on BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.1.6.

Other issues that may occur are as follows:

1. Browsing fails to function and one of the following errors occur only when using PAC configuration
* 400
* Unable to contact the selected MDS Connection service

Note: Proxy and direct configurations work correctly.
2. The BlackBerry® Mobile Data System (BlackBerry MDS) Connection Service repeatedly stops and is then restarted by the BlackBerry Controller.

Cause

This is caused by a conflict with some versions of the McAfee® anti-virus product, specifically the mcscan32.dll file, which prevents the BlackBerry MDS Connection Service from working with PAC files.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, upgrade to McAfee® VirusScan® Enterprise 8.7i.

Workaround

To workaround this issue, complete the following:

1. Disable PAC files and revert to proxy or direct configurations. For more information, see KB15673.
2. Downgrade the McAfee VirusScan Enterprise software version. Contact McAfee to determine what software versions are not affected.

Additional Information

Contact McAfee support directly for information regarding this issue.
