KB13875 - Modem failed to respond message while setting up the BlackBerry smartphone as a tethered modem
Environment
Overview
While setting up a BlackBerry smartphone as a tethered modem, the following message appears while querying the modem:
The modem failed to respond. Make sure it is properly connected and turned on. If it is an internal modem or is connected, verify that the interrupt for the port is properly set.
Note: To query the modem, complete the following steps:
- Open the Control Panel on your computer.
- Double-click Phone and Modem Options.
- On the Modems tab, highlight Standard Modem and click Properties.
- On the Diagnostics tab, click Query Modem.
Cause
An IT policy is preventing the BlackBerry smartphone from being used as a tethered modem.
Resolution
Contact your BlackBerry Enterprise Server system administrator and request that the IT policy Disable IP Modem be removed from your BlackBerry smartphone.
Note: The IT policy Disable IP Modem is located within the Security Policy Group on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
Additional Information
If the BlackBerry smartphone is not running the latest version of BlackBerry® Device Software, update the software. For more information, see KB16068.
