KB04950 - How to reset the BlackBerry smartphone calendar application
Environment
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server versions 4.0 and 4.1
- BlackBerry smartphones
Overview
If calendar entries on the BlackBerry smartphone are not reconciled correctly with the email application, reset the BlackBerry smartphone calendar application to synchronize the calendar entries in the email application with the BlackBerry smartphone.
Use one of the following methods to reset the calendar application on the BlackBerry smartphone:
Method 1 - Reset the Calendar using BlackBerry Desktop Manager
Task 1 - Turn off calendar synchronization
- Remove any incorrect or unwanted entries from the email application calendar.
- Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer.
- Start BlackBerry® Desktop Manager.
- In the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, click the Intellisync icon.
- Click Configure PIM.
- Clear the Calendar check box.
- Click OK, and then click Close.
Task 2 - Remove all calendar entries from the BlackBerry smartphone
- In the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, click the Backup and Restore icon.
- Click Advanced.
- In the Device Databases pane, click the Calendar database.
- Click Clear.
- In the Device Databases pane, click the Calendar-all database.
- Click Clear.
Task 3 - Turn on calendar synchronization
- In the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, click the Intellisync icon.
- Click Configure PIM.
- Select the Calendar check box.
- Click OK.
- Select the Synchronize PIM check box.
- Click Synchronize now.
Method 2 - Reset the calendar on the BlackBerry smartphone
Task 1-Toggle Wireless Synchronization
Note: The BlackBerry smartphone must be running BlackBerry® Device Software version 4.0 or later to perform this task.
- Remove any incorrect or unwanted entries from the email application calendar.
- In the BlackBerry smartphone calendar application, display the menu, and then click Options.
- Set the Wireless Synchronization field to No.
- Click Save.
- Press the Menu key and highlight Options.
- Set the Wireless Synchronization field to Yes.
- Click Save.
Task 2 - Reloading the calendar from the server
Note: The BlackBerry smartphone must be running BlackBerry® Device Software version 4.3 or later to perform this task.
- Open the calendar application on the BlackBerry smartphone.
- Press the Menu key and highlight Options.
- Select the calendar you want to reload.
- With the calendar highlighted, hold the Alt key and type rset (on a QWERTY keyboard).
- Click Yes to continue.
The wireless synchronization of calendar entries with the BlackBerry smartphone might take several minutes to complete.
Note: You can use the email application calendar or the BlackBerry smartphone calendar application during the wireless calendar synchronization process.
Additional Information
The following factors impact the speed of the synchronization process:
- The number of calendar entries being synchronized
- The number of attendees an appointment entry contains
- The number of calendar entries that are not synchronized correctly with the BlackBerry smartphone
- The size of the calendar folders in the mailbox
