KB03763 - How to subscribe to an Address Book in the BlackBerry Manager
KB03763 - How to subscribe to an Address Book in the BlackBerry Manager
Environment
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server version 4.0 to 4.1 for Novell® GroupWise®
- BlackBerry smartphone
Overview
The BlackBerry Enterprise Server is set to synchronize and reconcile contact lists every 4 hours. This means changes made to contacts in the Novell GroupWise client (such as adding, changing, or removing) can take up to 4 hours to appear on the handheld.
However, any changes made on the BlackBerry smartphone contact list are synchronized with the GroupWise client contact list immediately.
Note: The BlackBerry Enterprise Server does not synchronize Resources, Personal Groups, or Organizations.
Subscribing to a contact list before enterprise activation
You can subscribe a BlackBerry smartphone user account to an contact list from the BlackBerry Manager prior to enterprise activation. This will cause the contact list to synchronize wirelessly with the BlackBerry smartphone when the BlackBerry smartphones user activates.
- In the BlackBerry Manager click on the user account and select Edit Properties.
- Select PIM Sync.
- Scroll to the bottom of the window, and click AddressBookSubscribed
- Browse to and select the appropriate address book.
- Click OK.
Subscribing to a contact list after enterprise activation
If you subscribe a BlackBerry smartphone user account to a contact list after enterprise activation, it can take up to 4 hours for the contact list to be synchronized to the BlackBerry smartphone.
Synchronization of the contact list can be forced from either the BlackBerry smartphone or the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. To force synchronization from the BlackBerry smartphone:
- Click on the Address Book.
- Click the trackwheel and select Options.
- Change Wireless Synchronization to No and save the change.
- Click the trackwheel and select Options.
- Change Wireless Synchronization to Yes and save the change.
Note: This forces the reconciliation to occur immediately.
To force synchronization from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server,
Restart the server. This removes the old contact list and pushes the new one to the BlackBerry smartphone immediately.
Changing the contact list after enterprise activation
Changing a BlackBerry smartphones user’s subscribed contact list must be done on the server. It can take up to 4 hours for the previous contact list to be removed from the BlackBerry smartphone and replaced with the new contact list.
Warning: Any changes made to contacts on the BlackBerry smartphone prior to the server initiated synchronization will be lost when synchronization occurs. New addresses added during this time are not lost.
