KB05221 - How to prepare the BlackBerry Enterprise Server for multiple Domino domains
KB05221 - How to prepare the BlackBerry Enterprise Server for multiple IBM Lotus Domino domains
Environment
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software versions 4.0 and 4.1 for IBM® Lotus® Domino®
- SDR52708
Background
Before installing BlackBerry Enterprise Server software, make sure that the IBM Lotus Domino messaging and collaboration server is configured and running correctly throughout the IBM Lotus Domino domains.
This article provides a checklist for installing the BlackBerry Enterprise Server on an IBM Lotus Domino messaging and collaboration server in domain A, with other messaging servers distributed among domains B and C.
Before installing the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, refer to the appropriate BlackBerry Enterprise Server for IBM Lotus Domino: Installation Guide for a list of software and hardware requirements.
Overview
Use the following checklist to complete the required steps for your installation scenario:
For BlackBerry Enterprise Server software versions 4.0 and 4.1 or later
Note: In this list, the messaging server refers to the IBM Lotus Domino messaging and collaboration server on which the BlackBerry Enterprise Server is installed.
- Verify that the messaging server contains connection documents from the messaging servers in other domains from which it will replicate. This configuration facilitates message routing among foreign domains.
- Verify that the messaging server has directory assistance turned on for every other domain. This setting is required for address lookup and message addressing.
- To provide access control, add the IBM Lotus Domino messaging server to the LocalDomainServers group in every other domain. Note: The BlackBerry Enterprise Server must have read access to the IBM Lotus Domino Directory and Manager's access to the mail files.
- Cross-certification, at either a server or organization level, must be established between the IBM Lotus Domino messaging server and the messaging and directory servers in other domains. This configuration facilitates access from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to a messaging server in a foreign domain.
- Verify that you can send messages from IBM Lotus Domino messaging server to a user in foreign domains by creating a test IBM Lotus Notes® user account.
- Update the BlackBerry Enterprise Server with the latest Service Packs and Hotfixes.
For BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.0
Warning: The following procedure involves modifying the computer registry. This can cause substantial damage to the Microsoft® Windows® operating system. Document and back up the registry entries prior to implementing any changes.
- Upgrade the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software to the latest Service Pack and Hotfix and turn on support for the FromDomain field in messages sent from the BlackBerry smartphones of foreign domain users so that the From address for the message is formatted correctly.
- Go to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Agents
- Set the DWORD value AddFromDomain to 1. Once turned on, this function populates the FromDomain field with the value from the MailDomain field of the BlackBerry smartphone user's person document.
Note: The registry modification corrects formatting for the From address field in email messages sent from the BlackBerry smartphone when the BlackBerry Enterprise Server is in a different IBM Lotus Domino domain that the BlackBerry smartphone user's home server.
BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.1 or later deposits messages from the BlackBerry smartphone for foreign domain users into the mail.box on the messaging server and eliminates the need for additional routing steps; therefore, the registry entry modification is not necessary.
