KB10711 - How to reset the password on the BlackBerry smartphone
Environment
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server versions 4.0 - 4.1
- BlackBerry smartphones
Overview
Warning: Completing this procedure will delete the data on the BlackBerry smartphone. This procedure should be only be used to reset, not change your password setting. Do not perform this procedure if you know the password to unlock your BlackBerry smartphone. For instructions on how to change the password, see KB10766.
If you take ownership of a previously owned BlackBerry smartphone and you do not have the password to unlock it, you can reset the password by typing an incorrect password ten times. This process will also erase all the data on the BlackBerry smartphone. After the BlackBerry smartphone is reset, you will be prompted for a new password.
Note: During the process of typing an incorrect password ten times, you may be prompted to type blackberry a few times.
Resetting the BlackBerry smartphone password from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server
The BlackBerry smartphone password can also be reset from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server by selecting the Set Password and Lock Handheld option in BlackBerry Manager. This applies to BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.0 - 4.1.
This can be done in BlackBerry Manager by completing the following steps:
- In the Explorer View, click on the server the BlackBerry smartphone user account is on.
- Select the Users tab and highlight the BlackBerry smartphone user.
- At the lower portion of the screen, expand IT Admin and click Set Password and Lock Handheld.
