KB11664 - How to rebuild the folder structure for the BlackBerry state database and BlackBerry smartphone
Environment
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server version 4.0 and 4.1 for IBM® Lotus® Domino®
- BlackBerry smartphone
Overview
Complete the following steps to rebuild the folder structure for the BlackBerry state database and BlackBerry smartphone.
Step A - Turn off wireless reconciliation from the BlackBerry smartphone
Complete the following steps:
- On the BlackBerry smartphone Home screen, click Messages.
- Select Options.
- In the Options list, click Email Reconciliation.
- Click Wireless Reconcile and select Change Option.
- Click Off.
Step B - Remove the existing folder structure from the BlackBerry state database
Complete the following steps:
- In IBM® Lotus Notes® Administrator or IBM Lotus Domino Administrator, open the File menu, select Database, and click Open.
- In the Open Database window, select your BlackBerry Enterprise Server from the Server drop-down list. Note: This information is available if BlackBerry® Desktop Redirector is installed. The name of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server will be displayed in the Status field.
- In the Database field, double-click the BES folder.
- Double-click the BlackBerry User Profile database.
- In the left-hand pane, select Accounts.
- Double-click the BlackBerry smartphone user account.
- If asked to accept a cross certificate, click Yes.
- If asked to authorize the action, select the appropriate authorization option, and click OK.
- Double-click the State DB Link field.
- In the left-hand pane, select Mail Folders.
- Remove all of the mail folders, except Inbox.
Step C - Turn on wireless reconciliation from the BlackBerry smartphone
Use the instructions listed in Step A of this article to reactivate wireless reconciliation on the BlackBerry smartphone.
Note: Once wireless reconciliation has been restored, all mail folder documents will be recreated in the BlackBerry state database and synchronized to the BlackBerry smartphone.
Additional Information
Rebuild the folder structure when no email messages are being redirected to the BlackBerry smartphone. Even email messages that reside directly in the inbox folder on the IBM Lotus Mail Database are not being redirected to the BlackBerry smartphone. Both the IBM Lotus Domino console and the BlackBerry Messaging Agent (MAGT) log file show repeated warnings similar to the following line:
{Test User/RIM} Incoming NID=XXXXX was not found in any of the Y redirected folders
Where XXXXX is a NoteID and Y is the number of redirected folders for that BlackBerry smartphone user.
This issue can be caused by any folders that incorrectly share the same Folder ID as the Inbox folder. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server scans the wrong folder when searching for the Inbox folder. Rebuilding the Folder List can fix this problem by regenerating fresh Folder IDs for every folder except the Inbox folder.
There is a possibility that filed messages referenced in the state database may be moved to the BlackBerry smartphone user's inbox after the state database folder structure is recreated. This will occur if the BlackBerry smartphone user's email reconciliation conflict settings are set to Handheld Wins. The BlackBerry smartphone will attempt to reconcile the old folder ID referenced by the mail items in the state database, which can no longer be found due to the folder items being rebuilt. To avoid this, ensure the conflict resolution settings are set to Mailbox Wins prior to rebuilding the State database folder items.
