KB04670 - Install a third-party application with the Application Loader
Environment
- BlackBerry® Desktop Manager version 3.6 to 5.0
- BlackBerry smartphones
Overview
Verify that the third-party application to be installed on the BlackBerry smartphone is present on the computer. Then, complete the following steps:
Note: For information about setting up third-party applications, see the user guide for your BlackBerry smartphone.
For BlackBerry Desktop Manager version 4.3 and earlier
- Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer and open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
- In the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, open Application Loader.
- In the Application Loader Wizard, click Next.
- Type your password, if prompted, and click Next.
- In the Handheld Application Selection screen, click Add.
- Go to the directory of the application you want to add, select the <program>.alx file, and click Open.
- Once the application is in the list, verify that the check box next to the application is selected and click Next.
- On the Completing the Application Loader screen, verify the software to install is under Applications to be Installed or Updated, and click Finish.
- Once the application is installed on the BlackBerry smartphone, click Close in the Application Loader Wizard.
For BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.5 and later
- Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer and open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
- In the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, open Application Loader.
- In the Application Loader Wizard, choose Start in theAdd/Remove Applications section.
- Type your password, if prompted, and click Next.
- In the Device Application Selection screen, click Browse.
- Go to the directory of the application you want to add, select the <program>.alx file, and click Open.
- Once the application is in the list, verify that the check box next to the application is selected and click Next.
- Verify that the software is installed in the Summary window and click Finish.
- Once the application is installed on the BlackBerry smartphone, click Close in the Application Loader Wizard.
