KB03947 - BlackBerry smartphone status shows initializing and stops responding during Enterprise Activation

Environment

  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server version 4.0 for Novell® GroupWise®
  • BlackBerry smartphones
  • SDR51913

Overview

BlackBerry smartphone stops responding with a status of Initializing, and shows a listing of all the databases when attempting to perform Enterprise Activation on a BlackBerry smartphone that has IT Policy Disable Wireless Bulk Load set to True.

Resolution

Upgrade to BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.0 SP1. Once installed, the BlackBerry smartphone user will receive a warning that the BlackBerry smartphone must be cradled in order to complete the activation.

Workaround

Disable the IT Policy by setting Disable Wireless Bulk Load to False.

Additional Information

Verify the signal strength on the BlackBerry smartphone by going to Options > Status.
If the signal is -95dBm or lower, this is a weak signal strength. Try to strengthen the signal and keep it above -95dBm by going to a window, or an area of better signal strength.
If no stronger signal is accessible, a continuation of the activation through a wired connection is an excellent workaround.
