KB19055 - Unable to open a voice mail message using the visual voice mail application
Environment
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server version 5.0 for Microsoft® Exchange
- BlackBerry® Storm™ 9530 smartphone
- BlackBerry® Tour™ 9630 smartphone
Overview
When attempting to open a voice mail message using the Verizon® visual voice mail application the following error is received:
Required permissions for visual voicemail cannot be set probably due to an IT Policy. Recording needs to be set to allowed.
Cause
The
visual voice mail application is attempting to access the recording
application programming interface (API) on the BlackBerry smartphone.
Resolution
To
set the Application Control Policy to allow the visual voice mail
application to access the recording API follow the steps below:
- Login to the BlackBerry Administration Service.
- Expand Software.
- Click on Create an application control policy for unlisted applications.
- Give the policy an appropriate name and then click save.
- Click on the newly created policy.
- Select the Access settings tab.
- Click on the Edit application control policy.
- Change the Is access to screen, microphone, and video capturing APIs allowed to Allowed.
- Resend the IT Policy to the affected BlackBerry smartphone users.
Note: If no software configuration currently exists, then follow the instructions from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Administration Guide to create one and assign the application control policy created from the steps above.
