KB18010 - Selecting Change Primary to Standby Instance on a single BES ...
KB18010 - Selecting Change Primary Instance to Standby Instance on a single BlackBerry Enterprise Server instance causes services to cease functioning
Environment
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server version 5.0
Overview
When the option to Change Primary Instance to Standby Instance is used on a single BlackBerry Enterprise Server instance, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server is put into a standby mode and all services stop functioning until the BlackBerry Enterprise Server instance is set as the primary instance again.
Cause
When selecting the option Change Primary Instance to Standby Instance, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server becomes the standby instance and the active instance is changed to None. As such, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server enters standby mode and services cease to function.
To verify that the single BlackBerry Enterprise Server instance has been put into standby mode, complete the following:
- Open the BlackBerry Administration Service console.
- Expand Component View.
- Expand BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
- Select your BlackBerry Enterprise Server instance.
- Under the Status actions at the bottom of the screen, if you see the option Change standby instance to primary instance, then the BlackBerry Enterprise Server has been put into standby mode.
In addition, once a BlackBerry Enterprise Server has entered a standby mode the following services are stopped:
- BlackBerry MailStore Service
- BlackBerry Policy Service
- BlackBerry Synchronization Service
There will be no BlackBerry Enterprise Server functionality for BlackBerry smartphone users on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server that has been put into standby, for example, no email message services, no address lookup services, no push and pull services; however, the BlackBerry Administration Service console will continue to function.
Resolution
To resolve the issue, complete the following steps:
- Open the BlackBerry Administration Service console.
- On the Servers and components section expand BlackBerry Domain > Component View > BlackBerry Enterprise Server
- Select your BlackBerry Enterprise Server instance.
- Under the Status actions at the bottom of the screen, click Change standby instance to primary instance.
The BlackBerry Enterprise Server services and functionality will then resume.
