Environment

  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software version 4.1 Service Pack 5 (4.1.5)
  • BlackBerry® Internet Service 2.5
  • BlackBerry smartphones

Overview

An email message is received with a supported attachment file type but the option is missing to download the attachment.
With BlackBerry Device Software 4.5, you can download and save an email message attachment in its native (original) file format to a folder on your BlackBerry smartphone.
Note: If this features is trying to be used on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server account, this feature is only available for BlackBerry smartphones associated with a BlackBerry Enterprise Server that supports downloading email message attachments in their original file formats.
Note: Your administrator sets the maximum file size that can be downloaded.
The following files types are supported:
  • Microsoft® Word (.doc)
  • Microsoft® Excel® (.xls)
  • Microsoft® PowerPoint® (.ppt)
  • Adobe® PDF (.pdf)
  • WordPerfect® (.wpd)
  • ASCII (.txt)
  • Rich Text Format (.rtf)
  • HTML (.html)
  • Zip (.zip)
  • Graphic
  • Audio
  • Video
If the email message attachment file type is supported, you can choose to open or download the email message attachment. If you download an email message attachment, you can choose a folder on the BlackBerry smartphone in which to save the file.
If the email message attachment file type is not supported, you can only open the email message attachment.

Cause

The CMIME service book for the affected email account may be corrupted.

Resolution

Resend service books from the BlackBerry Internet Service account. For more information on how to resend service books for a BlackBerry Internet Service account, refer to KB15402.

Additional Information

For instructions on downloading and saving an email message attachment in its original file format to your BlackBerry smartphone, see KB15211.
