KB11008 - When forwarding or replying to a message, the timestamp is incorrect
KB11008 - When forwarding or replying to a message, the timestamp for the original message appears incorrect
Environment
- BlackBerry® smartphone
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software version 4.0 and later
- IBM® Lotus® Domino®
- IBM Lotus Notes®
- Microsoft® Exchange
- Microsoft Outlook®
- SDR79239
- SDR81966
- SDR87843
Overview
If your BlackBerry Enterprise Server and your BlackBerry smartphone are located in different time zones, and you forward or reply to an email message using the BlackBerry smartphone, the timestamp for the original message is set to the time zone in which your BlackBerry Enterprise Server is located.
This issue does not occur when you forward or reply to the message using Microsoft Outlook or IBM Lotus Notes. Microsoft Outlook and IBM Lotus Notes use the local time zone to create the timestamp for the original message.
Note: The timestamp for the original message also appears in 24-hour format. This issue is described in KB10968.
Example
User A and User B are both located in the Eastern Time Zone (GMT -5:00).
User B's BlackBerry Enterprise Server is located in the Central Time Zone (GMT -6:00).
User A sends User B a message at 1:00 PM (EST). User B replies to the message at 1:05 PM (EST). When User A opens the message, the timestamp for the original message shows 12:05 PM (CST). Example Message
From: User B
Sent: Thu 10/19/2006 1:05 PM
To: User A
Subject: Re: Test
-----Original Message-----
From: User A
To: User B
Sent: Thu Oct 19 12:05:00 2006 (timestamp for original message)
Subject: Test
Note: Since the message does not display the time zone beside the timestamp, users can be confused as to when the original message was actually sent.
Cause
When you forward or reply to a message on the BlackBerry smartphone, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server takes the message and creates a new timestamp for the original message by localizing it with the time zone in which the BlackBerry Enterprise Server is located.
This is a previously reported issue that has been escalated internally to our development team. No resolution time frame is currently available.
