Default KB15579 - Errors reported when attempting to push data through the BlackBerry MDS-CS

KB15579 - Errors reported when attempting to push data through the BlackBerry MDS Connection Service to a BlackBerry smartphone

Environment

  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server for Microsoft Exchange® version 4.0 or later
  • BlackBerry MDS Connection Service

Overview

In an environment where a third party application server pushes data to BlackBerry smartphones by way of a BlackBerry MDS Connection Service, the following errors occurrs for newly added BlackBerry smartphone users:
"HTTP 403 could not map device to an IPPP host"
"PushServlet: FAILED - could not map device to an IPPP host"

Existing BlackBerry smartphone users continue to receive push data.

Cause

When reviewing the MDAT logs, the Admin Task was not running on the primary push server. As a result, the mappingscache.bin file was not updated with the information for the new BlackBerry smartphone users.

Resolution

This issue has been reported. However, to escalate the issue to development, additional information is required. See the Additional Information section below for details on what additional information to collect if this problem occurs again.

Workaround

  • Restart the BlackBerry MDS Connection Service. This will cause the Admin Task to run again.
  • If a service restart is not feasible, push to another server by following these steps:
    1. Configure another primary push server.
    2. Push directly to the server the affected users are on, in addition to continuing to use the existing primary push server for unaffected BlackBerry smartphone users.

Additional Information

To help identify the root cause of this issue, collect the BlackBerry Enterprise Server logs from a time when the issue had first occurred.
