KB19166 - New conversations are not appearing in the OCS client with Multiple POPs
KB19166 - New conversations are not appearing in the Microsoft Office Communicator client with Multiple Points of Presence
Environment
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server for Microsoft® Exchange version 4.1 SP6 and later
- Microsoft® Office Communications Server 2007
- BlackBerry® Client for use with Microsoft® Office Communications Server 2007 2.1 and later
- SDR171244
- SDR279255
Overview
In this instance “New Point of Entry” instant messages are not being routed correctly to the Microsoft® Office Communicator 2007 client (desktop client).
With Multiple Points of Presence (MPOP) it is expected that the last client to sign-in or the last client to be used will be set as the Point of Presence. For example new conversation notifications (toasts) should appear on this client (active end point).
However with this issue, when the BlackBerry Client for use with Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 logs in as the last active endpoint, it will always receive the new conversation notification (toast). This will cause BlackBerry smartphone users to miss instant messaging conversations if they are expected on their desktop client.
Toast: A pop-up message displayed by a messenger client.
Active end point: The last logged in client.
This is illustrated in the following example:
- User A logs into the desktop Microsoft Office Communicator client.
- User A logs into the BlackBerry Client for use with Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007.
- User B tries to start a new conversation with User A.
- The Toast is displayed on the BlackBerry Client for use with Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007.
- User A starts a new conversation with User C from the desktop which marks the desktop as the active endpoint.
- User D tries to start a new conversation with User A, but the Toast is delivered to the BlackBerry smartphone despite the active endpoint being the desktop.
Expected behavior - The Toast is delivered to the desktop Microsoft Office Communicator client active endpoint.
Actual behavior - The Toast is delivered to BlackBerry Client for use with Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 if the BlackBerry Client was the last one to log in after the user logged into the desktop client.
Resolution
This is a previously reported issue that has been escalated internally to our development team. No resolution time frame is currently available.
Workaround
Log into the desktop client last; however, this will not guarantee this issue from occurring as the BlackBerry Client for use with Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 disconnects/reconnects at times.
