KB03312 - Unable to clear databases on BlackBerry using DM when activated on a BES
KB03312 - Unable to clear databases on the BlackBerry smartphone using the BlackBerry Desktop Manager when activated to a BlackBerry Enterprise Server
Environment
- BlackBerry® Desktop Software
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server version 4.0 to 5.0
- BlackBerry smartphones
Overview
You are unable to clear certain handheld databases in the Backup and Restore window of BlackBerry Desktop Manager. When you select the database, the Clear button is unavailable.
Note: To open the Backup and Restore window, double-click Backup and Restore, and click Advanced.
Cause
There are two possible causes for this issue.
Cause 1
The BlackBerry smartphone is configured for wireless personal information management (PIM) synchronization.
Resolution 1
To disable wireless PIM synchronization on the BlackBerry smartphone, please perform the following:
- Open the application of the database you want to clear (for example, Address Book, MemoPad, Tasks, Calendar).
- Open the menu and select Options -> Wireless Synchronization, and press the Space key until the field displays Off.
- Open the menu and select Save.
Cause 2
The BlackBerry smartphone is backed up wirelessly by the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
Resolution 2
Temporarily delete the Desktop [SYNC] service book on the BlackBerry smartphone by completing the following steps:
- Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the personal computer with a USB cable.
- From the BlackBerry smartphone Home screen, navigate to Options > Advanced Options > Service Book.
- Highlight Desktop [SYNC], open the menu, and select Delete.
For instructions on how to clear databases from the BlackBerry smartphone, please refer to KB10167.
Once the selected databases have been cleared, undelete the Desktop [SYNC] service book by performing the following:
- From the BlackBerry smartphone Home screen, navigate to Options > Advanced Options > Service Book.
- Open the menu, and select Undelete.
The Destkop [SYNC] service book should now be back onto the BlackBerry smartphone. If the Desktop [SYNC] service book does not come back to the BlackBerry smartphone, please contact your systems administrator to push the service books from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. For more information, please refer to KB03577.
