KB13805 - Turn on logging for BlackBerry Messenger
KB13805 - Turn on logging for BlackBerry Messenger
Environment
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server version 4.1
- BlackBerry® Messenger
- BlackBerry® smartphones
- SDR136551
- SDR115204
Overview
To turn on logging for the BlackBerry Messenger, you must configure the appropriate setting within an IT policy.
Complete the following steps:
- Open the BlackBerry Manager and select BlackBerry Domain in the Explorer view.
- In the Tasks pane, select Edit Properties.
- In the Properties list, select IT Policy.
- In the right pane, double-click IT Policies.
- Select the IT policy you would like affected and select Properties.
- In the left pane, select BlackBerry Messenger Policy Group.
- Make sure the following parameters are set:
- Disable BlackBerry Messenger: Leave blank or choose False. A blank entry defaults to a False value.
- Messenger Audit Email Address: Type the email address that logging entries will be sent to. Leaving this value blank disables logging.
- Messenger Audit UID: You can specify which service book is used to send BlackBerry Messenger logs by entering the unique identifier (UID) here. You can find a UID on a BlackBerry smartphone by going to Options > Advanced Options > Service Book. Select the desired service book and click View to see the UID. A blank value results in the first available encrypted message service being used.
- Messenger Audit Report Interval: Specify, in hours, how often the BlackBerry Messenger application sends a new report if there is new data. A blank value results in the default 24 hours being used.
- Messenger Audit Max Report Interval: Specify, in hours, how often the BlackBerry Messenger application sends a new report whether or not there is new data. A blank value results in the default 168 hours being used.
- Click OK until you are back to the main screen.
BlackBerry smartphone users assigned to the modified IT policy will now see BlackBerry Messenger messages in the Sent Items folder on their BlackBerry smartphones.
Additional Information
Make sure that the Messenger Audit Email Address field contains a valid Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) email address or the audit report will bounce back to the BlackBerry smartphone user.
