KB15463 - Duplicate usernames within the same or an external domain become disabled
KB15463 - Duplicate usernames within the same or an external domain become disabled
Environment
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software version 4.1 SP4 to 4.1 SP6 for Novell® GroupWise®
- SDR113692
Overview
When the GroupWise System Address Book Synchronization process runs after upgrading to BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.1 SP4, the BlackBerry smartphone users who have UserNames identical to other user accounts in the GroupWise System, or in an External Domain, become disabled.
The ADLSYNC log will contain the following line: [ADLSYNC]
[24001] (03/17 16:13:50):{0x1D60} WARNING: Duplicate username found, user disabled from BES.
The Mailbox and Email Address values will be updated to have "_disabled" added to the end of them, which is visible in the BlackBerry Manager.
After the next restart of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, the affected BlackBerry smartphone users will fail to log in, and will be unable to send or receive messages, as shown in the following log samples: [GWQM]
[14123] (03/15 21:21:43):{0xFA8} {0} {FirstName LastName} MultiLogin failed, error=System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80004005): Login unsuccessful

[20154] (03/15 11:46:29.791):{0xB9C} User FirstName LastName not started
[50079] (03/15 11:46:29.791):{0xB9C} 1 user(s) failed to initialize
Cause
This change is by design. Due to a limitation of the GroupWise Object API, it is not possible to distinguish between users with duplicate UserNames. Novell GroupWise does not support duplicate UserNames, and newer versions of ConsoleONE will not allow their creation, however, duplicate UserNames may still arise across External Domains.
Resolution
Complete the following procedures:
Rename the Novell GroupWise user name.
- Open ConsoleONE and select the appropriate GroupWise System.
- Select Users.
- Click the ObjectID column header to sort the users by ObjectID.
- Re-name the ObjectID of the affected user to be unique within the GroupWise System.
- Confirm the change has been propagated through the GroupWise System, and can be viewed through the GroupWise System Address Book.
Clear and synchronize the GroupWise System Address Book in the BlackBerry Manager.
- Open BlackBerry Manager and select the BlackBerry Enterprise Server with the affected BlackBerry smartphone user account.
- Select the Server Configuration tab.
- Expand the Service Control & Customization menu and click Clear and Sync GroupWise System Address Book.
- Restart the BlackBerry GroupWise Service and BlackBerry Controller Service. Note: If the Mailbox and Email Address fields in the BlackBerry Manager do not automatically remove the "_disabled" addition and update to the new values, contact BlackBerry Technical Support for commands to manually update the BlackBerry Configuration Database.
- Remove, and re-add the BlackBerry smartphone user account. Note: The associated BlackBerry smartphone will need to be re-activated.
