KB05277 - This function is unavailable because the Mailstore Adaptor DLL has failed to initialize
Environment
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server version 4.1 for IBM® Lotus® Domino®
- IBM® Lotus Notes®
Overview
BlackBerry Manager performs the following functions:
- Adds BlackBerry smartphone users to the BlackBerry® Enterprise Server
- Chooses folders for redirection
- Exports to the legacy server
- Finds BlackBerry smartphone users
- Generates and sends an activation password in an email message
When one of the above functions is performed, the following error message is displayed:
This function is unavailable because the Mailstore Adaptor DLL has failed to initialize.
The BlackBerry Manager log file (MNGR) displays the following information: [10000] (06/13 14:43:01):{0xE9C} [DominoAdaptorDLL::Initialize] Failed to initialize Notes Session.
[20000] (06/13 14:43:01):{0xE9C} Mailstore Connector failed to initialize; some functions may not be available.
Cause
This issue may be caused by any of the following:
- The IBM Lotus Notes client or IBM Lotus Domino messaging and collaboration server is not installed on the computer hosting BlackBerry Manager.
- IBM Lotus Notes cannot be located on the computer hosting BlackBerry Manager.
- The IBM Lotus Domino console security password has been turned on by the BlackBerry Enterprise Server administrator.
- The registry key path to the mailstore adapter .dll file is incorrect.
Resolution
Complete the appropriate resolution for the cause.
Cause 1
The IBM Lotus Notes client or IBM Lotus Domino messaging and collaboration server is not installed on the computer hosting BlackBerry Manager.
Resolution
Perform one of the following actions:
- Install IBM Lotus Notes software for a remote installation of BlackBerry Manager
- Install IBM Lotus Domino messaging and collaboration server software
Cause 2
IBM Lotus Notes cannot be located on the computer hosting BlackBerry Manager.
Resolution
Complete the following steps:
- Verify the location of the IBM Lotus Notes installation on the host computer.
- Go to Start > Control Panel > System.
- Select the Advanced tab and then click Environment Variables.
- Add the installation path identified in step 1 to the end of the Path variable in the list of system variables. For example, add one of the following file paths to the end of the Path variable.
- ;C:\Program Files\Lotus\Domino
- ;C:\Program Files\Lotus\Notes
Note: If BlackBerry Manager is installed on a terminal server, make sure that the Path variable includes the network share location where IBM Lotus Notes is located.
Cause 3
The IBM Lotus Domino console security password has been turned on by the BlackBerry Enterprise Server administrator.
This can be verified by typing tell bes about in the IBM Lotus Domino console. The following error message will display:
This command is not permitted when console security is in effect
Resolution
Re-type the IBM Lotus Domino console security password and then re-open BlackBerry Manager.
- Type Set Secure <password> in the IBM Lotus Domino console.
- Verify that the command tell bes about is now working correctly.
- Close BlackBerry Manager if it is still open.
- Re-open BlackBerry Manager.
Cause 4
The registry key path to the mailstore adapter .dll file is incorrect.
Resolution
Complete the following steps:
- Open the Registry Editor and browse to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Manager
- Verify that the MailstoreAdaptorDLL registry key contains the correct path to the BBMgrDominoAdaptor.dll file. The path should be similar to the following:
C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\BBMgr\Server\BBMgrDominoAdaptor.dll
