KB04713 - Enable message prepopulation for all users on a BES
KB04713 - Enable message prepopulation for all users on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server
Environment
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server version 4.0 SP3 HF2 to 4.1 for IBM® Lotus® Domino®
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server version 4.0 SP3 HF2 to 4.1 for Microsoft® Exchange
- Windows® 2000 and 2003
Overview
Prior to BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.0.3 HF2, message prepopulation only occurred if a BlackBerry smartphone user’s personal identification number (PIN) changed (for example: when a BlackBerry smartphone user switched to a different BlackBerry smartphone). Since Hotfix 2, the message prepopulation feature can also resend existing messages after the BlackBerry smartphone has all data and applications erased.
Warning: The following procedure involves modifying the computer registry. This can cause substantial damage to the Windows operating system. Document and back up the registry entries prior to implementing any changes.
To enable message prepopulation for all BlackBerry smartphone users, complete the following:
- On the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, click Start > Run, type regedit, and press ENTER to open the Registry Editor.
- Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
- Right-click the Agents registry key, then click New > DWORD Value.
- Type ForceMsgPrepopOnActivation as the new DWORD Value name, then press ENTER.
- Double-click ForceMsgPrepopOnActivation.
- In the Value data field, type 1, then click OK.
- Close the Registry Editor.
