KB03296 - How to move the BlackBerry service account mailbox
KB03296 - How to move the BlackBerry service account mailbox
Environment
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server for Microsoft® Exchange versions 3.5 through 4.1
- Microsoft® Exchange 2000 through 2007
Overview
The following procedure describes how to move the administration mailbox that the BlackBerry Enterprise Server uses between mailbox stores or from one Microsoft Exchange Server to another. This article does not apply to moving individual BlackBerry smartphone users.
In versions prior to BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.0, the administration mailbox is essential to the operation of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server because it holds critical information such as the Server Routing Protocol (SRP) connectivity information, instance names, and associated BlackBerry smartphone user lists.
To move the administration mailbox between mailbox stores or from one Microsoft Exchange Server to another, complete the following tasks. Important: The following steps require stopping and restarting some BlackBerry Enterprise Server services. Restarting certain BlackBerry Enterprise Server services will delay email message delivery to BlackBerry smartphones. For more information, see KB04789.
Task 1
In the Windows® Services window on the computer hosting the BlackBerry Enterprise Server perform one of the following:
- For BlackBerry Enterprise Server versions 4.0 and 4.1, stop all BlackBerry Enterprise Server services. The number of services depends on the number of BlackBerry components installed. Note: See KB13718 for the order in which to stop the services.
- For BlackBerry Enterprise Server versions 3.5 and 3.6, stop the BlackBerry Server <server_name> Service, where <server_name> is the name of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
Task 2
Move the administration mailbox to the new location. For instructions, see the BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Microsoft Exchange Administration Guide. Note: You must be logged in to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account to complete Tasks 3 through 5.
Task 3
Update the Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) profiles on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
For BlackBerry Enterprise Server versions 4.0 and 4.1
- On the Start menu, go to Programs > BlackBerry Enterprise Server > BlackBerry Server Configuration.
- On the BlackBerry Server tab, click Edit MAPI Profile.
- In the Microsoft Exchange Server field, type the new Microsoft Exchange Server name.
- In the Mailbox field, type the new mailbox name.
Note: Verify the Exchange server name has been updated when you perform a Check Name.
For BlackBerry Enterprise Server versions 3.5 and 3.6
- On the Start menu, go to Programs > BlackBerry Enterprise Server > Edit the MAPI Profile for > BlackBerry Server <server_name>, where <server_name> is the name of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
- In the Microsoft Exchange Server field, type the new Microsoft Exchange Server name.
- In the Mailbox field, type the new mailbox name. Tip: If you have moved the mailbox to a different mailbox store on the same Microsoft Exchange Server, you can click Check Name.
- On the Start menu, go to Programs > BlackBerry Enterprise Server > Edit the MAPI Profile for > BlackBerry Server Management.
- Repeat steps 2 and 3.
Task 4
Run the handheldcleanup.exe utility (BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 3.6 only). Note: You do not need to run the handheldcleanup.exe utility when using BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.0 and later.
- From a command prompt, go to C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Utility
- Type handheldcleanup -m and press Enter.
- After the procedure is complete, close the command prompt.
Task 5
In Windows Services, on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, start the BlackBerry Enterprise Server services that were stopped in Task 1. If you are using BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.0 or 4.1, see KB13718 for the order in which to start the services.
Additional Information
BlackBerry smartphone user mailbox moves are detected automatically by the BlackBerry Enterprise Server when the BlackBerry Enterprise Server scans the Global Address List (GAL) for updated BlackBerry smartphone user information. This scan occurs every 12 minutes.
Note: The Administration or Administrator mailbox is also known as the BESAdmin mailbox.
