KB00564 - How to configure and set default notification levels for BES Alert
Environment
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server version 3.6 to 4.1
- Microsoft® Exchange
Overview
Server-level notifications send events to all users listed in the User Notification list of the BES Alert Configuration window based on events recorded in the Microsoft Windows® Event Log.
BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 3.6 and 4.0
- In BlackBerry Manager, right-click a BlackBerry Enterprise Server and click BlackBerry Enterprise Server Properties.
- Click on the BES Alert tab.
- In the Messages Sent From field, type the SMTP address from which to send and receive replies to alert messages.
- In the SMTP Server Machine field, type the SMTP server name of your gateway in DNS format.
- From the Default Notification Level drop-down list, select one of the following options:
- Critical: All level 0 events (critical)
- Error: All level 1 events (error)
- Warning: All level 2 events and lower (warning and error)
- Informational: All level 3 events and lower (informational, warning, and error)
- In the User Notification section, click Add.
- Type the recipients name.
- From the Notification Level drop-down list, select one of the following options:
- Default: the event level defined for BES Alert
- Error: all level 1 events (error)
- Warning: all level 2 events and lower (warning and error)
- Informational: all level 3 events and lower (informational, warning, and error)
- Type the SMTP address where messages will be sent and/or the computer names on which console message notifications display.
- Click OK to save changes.
BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.1
- In BlackBerry Manager, highlight the BlackBerry Enterprise Server and click Edit Properties.
- Click on the BES Alert option.
- In the SMTP Hostname field, type the DNS name of the SMTP gateway.
- In the SMTP Account Name field, type the Microsoft Windows account that will log into the SMTP server.
- In the SMTP Address field, type the email address where events will be sent from.
- In the Event Level field, select one of the following:
- Critical: All level 0 events (critical)
- Error: All level 1 events (error)
- Warning: All level 2 events and lower (warning and error)
- Informational: All level 3 events and lower (informational, warning, and error)
- Double-click on User Notification, and then click New to add a new BlackBerry device user.
- In the Username field, type the recipients name.
- In the Event Level drop-down list, select on of the following:
- Default: the event level defined for BES Alert
- Error: all level 1 events (error)
- Warning: all level 2 events and lower (warning and error)
- Informational: all level 3 events and lower (informational, warning, and error)
- In the Email Address field, type the address alerts will be sent to.
- In the Console field, type the computers on which console messages notifications display.
- Click OK to save changes.
Note: The user-specific Event Level settings Error, Warning, and Informational will override the Default Event Level setting.
