KB05033 - BlackBerry Manager error message: Unable to connect to database
Environment
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server version 4.0
- Microsoft® Exchange
Overview
When BlackBerry Manager is opened, the following error message is displayed: Unable to connect to the database!
Cause
This may be caused by one of the following:
- The BlackBerry Enterprise Server was not installed using the BlackBerry Enterprise Service Account.
- The BlackBerry Enterprise Service Account is hidden from the Global Address List.
- The Messaging Application Protocol Interface (MAPI) profile is not pointing to the correct Microsoft Exchange Server and mailbox.
Resolution
This issue may be resolved by performing one of the following procedures:
Cause 1
The BlackBerry Enterprise Server was not installed using the BlackBerry Enterprise Service Account.
Resolution
You must be logged into the BlackBerry Enterprise Service account before starting the installation of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
Cause 2
The BlackBerry Enterprise Service account is hidden from the Global Address List.
Resolution
- Open the Microsoft Active Directory® and expand the Users item.
- Right-click the BlackBerry Enterprise Service account and select Properties.
- Select the Exchange Advanced tab.
- Clear the Hide from Exchange Address List check box.
- Click OK.
Cause 3
The MAPI profile is not pointing to the correct Microsoft Exchange Server and mailbox.
Resolution
Ensure that the MAPI profile is pointing to the correct Microsoft Exchange Server and mailbox.
- Click Start > Programs > BlackBerry Enterprise Server > Edit MAPI Profile.
- Ensure that the Microsoft Exchange server field contains the name for the correct Microsoft Exchange Server.
- Ensure that the Mailbox field contains the correct BlackBerry Enterprise Service account mailbox name.
- Click OK.
