- Turn on Named Pipes and TCP/IP network protocols for the remote Microsoft SQL Server or MSDE. For more information, see article KB04147. Note: Running BlackBerry Manager using a virtual private network (VPN) can cause issues due to limitations of the Named Pipes protocol.
- For BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.0 or earlier, assign Microsoft Exchange permissions to the account that will administer BlackBerry Manager. See KB05035 for more information.
- Assign the administrative role to the account that will administer BlackBerry Manager.
- Open BlackBerry Manager as a BlackBerry Enterprise Server administrative account.
- Select the BlackBerry Domain and go to the Role Administration tab.
- Select the role you want to assign to the account.
- If this account is already set up as the Microsoft SQL Server login account, click on the List Administrators option and select the checkmark next to it.
- If this account is not already set up as the Microsoft SQL Server login account, click the Add Administrators option and type the account name to create a Microsoft SQL Server login account. Type a password on the next screen. For more information about role based administration, see KB04889. Note: Use Microsoft SQL Server authentication for this account.
- Turn on printer and file sharing in Windows to activate the BlackBerry smartphones. Note: To turn on printer and file sharing in Windows, search for this information on the Microsoft support site.
- Install the BlackBerry Manager by completing the following:
Note: Install the same version of BlackBerry Manager that is installed on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
- Log in to the account that will be used to run BlackBerry Manager.
- Run the setup.exe file from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server installation package.
- In the Setup Type window, select BlackBerry Manager.
- Follow the instructions.
