KB03849 - How to prevent sent messages from redirecting to the BlackBerry smartphone


Environment

  • BlackBerry® Device Software 4.0 - 4.7
  • BlackBerry® Desktop Manager
  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server version 4.0 - 5.0 for IBM® Lotus® Domino®
  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server version 4.0 - 5.0 for Microsoft® Exchange
  • BlackBerry smartphones



Overview

BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.0 - 5.0 redirects email messages sent from the email application to the BlackBerry smartphone by default. Even if you choose to disable email redirection when the BlackBerry smartphone is connected to the computer and BlackBerry Desktop Manager is running, messages sent from the email client are still redirected to the BlackBerry smartphone.
To prevent sent messages from being redirected to the BlackBerry smartphone, complete one of the following procedures:
BlackBerry Desktop Manager versions 4.0 - 4.7

Note:
In version 4.0 and 4.1 of the BlackBerry Desktop Manager E-mail Settings is Redirector Settings.
  1. Double-click E-mail Settings.
  2. Click the Advanced tab.
  3. In the Folder redirection section, click the Selected Folders option, and then click Choose Folders.
  4. Clear the Sent Items check box.
  5. Close BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
BlackBerry smartphone
  1. On the Home screen, select Messages.
  2. Display the menu and the select Options.
  3. Click Email Settings.
  4. Display the menu, and then select Folder Redirection.
  5. Select the mailbox, display the menu, and select Expand.
  6. Clear the Sent Items check box.
  7. Display the menu, and then click Save.
BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.0
Note: Folder redirection is not available in the BlackBerry Manager in BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.0 for IBM Lotus Domino.
  1. In BlackBerry Manager, right-click a BlackBerry smartphone user's name, then click Properties.
  2. Select the Redirection tab.
  3. Select the Selected Folders option, and then click Choose Folders.
  4. Clear the Sent Items check box.
  5. Click OK to close the Choose Folders window.
  6. Click OK again.
BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.1
  1. Open BlackBerry Manager.
  2. Select the server in the left pane.
  3. Go to User > Service Access > Choose Folders.
  4. Clear the Sent Items check box.
  5. Click OK.
BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 5.0
  1. Log into the BlackBerry Administration Service web console.
  2. Expand User under BlackBerry Solution Management.
  3. Click Manage Users.
  4. Search for the required BlackBerry smartphone user, and then select their display name.
  5. Click Default configuration under the Messaging configuration section of the User Information tab of the user view.
  6. Select the E-mail tab.
  7. Click Edit user.
  8. Choose Selected folders under the Redirection settings.
  9. Clear the Sent Items check box.
  10. Click Continue to user information edit.
  11. Click Save all.
