Default KB12766 - Assign BlackBerry smartphone users to a static mailbox agent

KB12766 - Assign BlackBerry smartphone users to a static mailbox agent

Environment

  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server for Microsoft® Exchange version 4.1 and 5.0

Overview

This article describes how to set a BlackBerry smartphone user to a static mailbox agent ID.
To assign a BlackBerry smartphone user to a static mailbox agent on BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.1, complete the following steps:
  1. Open BlackBerry Manager,
  2. Select the All Users tab and right-click the BlackBerry smartphone user's account and select Edit Properties.
  3. In the Properties window, select the Advanced tab.
  4. Change Enable Static Mailbox Agent to True.
  5. Set Mailbox Agent ID to a value between 200 to 399.
  6. Click the Apply button to save the changes before closing the window.
To assign a BlackBerry smartphone user to a static mailbox agent ID in BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 5.0, complete the following steps:
  1. Log into the BlackBerry Administration Service web console.
  2. Expand User under the BlackBerry Solution Management.
  3. Click Manage Users.
  4. Search for the desired BlackBerry smartphone user and click on their display name.
  5. Click on Component information in the user view.
  6. Click on Edit user.
  7. Set Turn on static mailbox agent to Yes.
  8. Enter a number between 200 and 399 in the Mailbox agent ID field.
  9. Click Save all.

Additional Information

This procedure might be useful when BlackBerry smartphone user accounts are on a remote Microsoft Exchange server that has network latency issues. Assigning these BlackBerry smartphone users to a static agent can reduce the impact of network latency on BlackBerry smartphone user accounts on local Microsoft Exchange servers.
This is a temporary solution to consider while the network latency issues are addressed.
Note: If assigning multiple static agents, each one will initiate a new BlackBerryAgent.exe process and a new CalHelper.exe process on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. These processes will use hardware resources and may cause performance issues on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
