KB11202 - How to enable automatic wireless backup
Environment
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server version 4.0 or later
- BlackBerry® Device Software version 4.0 or later
Overview
Automatic wireless backup copies BlackBerry smartphone user settings and data from the BlackBerry smartphone to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server automatically. These settings and data can be later restored to the BlackBerry smartphone during the enterprise activation process. Automatic wireless backup is enabled on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server by default. Automatic wireless back up allows system administrators to wirelessly restore settings and data if the BlackBerry smartphone experiences a problem.
Automatic wireless backup allows settings and data that are not already stored in the mail system to be backed up. The following information is backed up:

On BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.1 and later, the following information under information technology (IT) Policy settings is also backed up:
- personal identification number (PIN) messages
- Short Message Service (SMS) messages
The following two IT policies, found in the PIM Synchronization Policy Group, need to be set to False to enable these messages to back up:
Disable PIN Message Wireless Synchronization
Disable SMS Message Wireless Synchronization

Additional Information
To enable automatic wireless backup:
- In the left pane of BlackBerry Manager, click a BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
- On the Users tab, double-click a user account.
- Click PIM Sync
- Click Automatic Wireless Backup Enabled.
- In the drop-down list, click True.
- Click OK.
