Default KB11826 - "HTTP Error 407: Proxy Authentication Required"

KB11826 - When using the BlackBerry Browser the following error is displayed "HTTP Error 407: Proxy Authentication Required"


Environment

  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server version 4.1 to 5.0
  • BlackBerry® Device Software 4.0 to 4.7



Overview

Although the Proxy mappings for the BlackBerry® Mobile Data System (BlackBerry MDS) Connection Service have been configured, the following error messages are displayed by BlackBerry® Browser on the BlackBerry smartphone:
Error: Unsupported authentication scheme
HTTP Error 407: Proxy Authentication Required
You must authenticate with a proxy server to view this page. Please try loading a different page.



Cause

Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) authentication has not been enabled on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.



Resolution

To resolve this error, complete the following steps:
For BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.1 perform the following:
  1. In BlackBerry Manager, in the left pane, click a BlackBerry MDS Connection Service.
  2. On the Connection Service tab, click Edit Properties.
  3. Click HTTP.
  4. Click Support HTTP Authentication.
  5. In the drop-down list, click True.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Restart the BlackBerry MDS Connection Service.
  8. Verify that the BlackBerry Browser can now be used on the BlackBerry smartphone.
For BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 5.0 perform the following:
Open BlackBerry Administration Service
  1. In the left pane, under servers and components expand BlackBerry Solution topology.
  2. Expand BlackBerry Domain.
  3. Expand Component View.
  4. Click on MDS Connection Service.
  5. In the right pane click on HTTP.
  6. Click on Edit component.
  7. Click on the drop-down box beside Authentication Support enabled and change to Yes.
  8. Click on Save All.
  9. Restart the BlackBerry MDS Connection Service.
  10. Verify that the BlackBerry Browser can now be used on the BlackBerry smartphone.
