KB04049 - Service-specific error code 0
KB04049 - Service-specific error code 0
Environment
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software version 4.0 for Microsoft® Exchange
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software version 4.0 for IBM® Lotus® Domino®
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server Resource Kit
Warning: The following procedure involves modifying the computer registry. This can cause substantial damage to the Windows® operating system. Document and back up the existing registry entries prior to implementing any changes.
Overview
When starting the BlackBerry User Administration service, the following error displays: Windows could not start the BlackBerry User Administration on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 0.
Cause
When upgrading to BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.0, the installation procedure does not upgrade the BlackBerry User Administration service.
Resolution
Install the BlackBerry User Administration service in the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Resource Kit version 4.0. See the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Resource Kit Version 4.0 User Guide for instructions.
After installation, there will be two BlackBerry User Administration service versions within the Microsoft Windows Administration Tools > Services location: the previous version and the version installed by the BlackBerry Resource Kit. Remove the previous version.
- In the Registry Editor, right-click on each of the following registry keys and click Delete:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\BBUserAdminService
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\BBUserAdminService
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControl\SetServices\BBUserAdminService
- In Windows Explorer, browse to Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
- Right-click on the User Admin folder and click Delete.
Additional Information
To prevent this issue, modify the installation process to remove the BlackBerry User Administration Service before upgrading to BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.0. See the BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Microsoft Exchange Installation Guide for instructions.
