KB15211 - How to download and save an email message attachment in its native file format
Environment

  • BlackBerry® Device Software version 4.5 to 4.7
  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software version 4.1 SP5 (4.1.5) to SP6 (4.1.6)
  • BlackBerry® Internet Service 2.5
  • BlackBerry smartphones

Overview

With BlackBerry Device Software version 4.5 to 4.7, you can download and save an email message attachment in its native (original) file format to a folder on your BlackBerry smartphone.
Note: This feature is only available for BlackBerry smartphones associated with a BlackBerry Enterprise Server that supports downloading email message attachments in their original file formats.
Note: Your administrator sets the maximum file size that can be downloaded.
The following files types are supported:
  • Microsoft® Word (.doc)
  • Microsoft® Excel® (.xls)
  • Microsoft® PowerPoint® (.ppt)
  • Adobe® PDF (.pdf)
  • Corel® WordPerfect® (.wpd)
  • ASCII (.txt)
  • Rich Text Format (.rtf)
  • HTML (.html)
  • Zip (.zip)
  • Graphic
  • Audio
  • Video
Note: Downloading an email message attachment in its original file format may significantly increase the amount of wireless data transmitted to the BlackBerry smartphone and result in additional data charges.
To download and save an email message attachment, complete the following steps:
  1. In the email message, highlight the attachment that you want to download.
  2. Display the menu, and select Download Attachment.
Note: If the email message attachment file type is not supported, the Download Attachment option does not appear and you can only view the email message attachment.
  3. Select the folder you want to save the file to.
  4. When the download is complete, the following message appears: Attachment download complete. Open the attachment now?
  5. To view the file, click Open.

Additional Information

To view the progress of the download, highlight the attachment. A drop-down box appears indicating what percentage of the download is complete.
