KB10555 - Best practices for installing a BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Microsoft Exchange service pack
Environment
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server versions 4.0 and 4.1 for Microsoft® Exchange
Overview
The following are recommended practices for installing BlackBerry Enterprise Server software for Microsoft Exchange:
Task 1 - Back Up the BlackBerry Configuration Database
Open a command prompt on the computer hosting the BlackBerry Configuration Database and type the following commands: osql -E
1> backup database besmgmt to disk = "c:\backup_before_upgrade.bak"
2> go
1> quit
Task 2 - Stop the BlackBerry services and record login account information
Complete the following steps:
- In the Control Panel, go to Administrative Tools > Services.
- Stop each BlackBerry Enterprise Server service. Important: Restarting certain BlackBerry Enterprise Server services will delay email message delivery to BlackBerry smartphones. For more information, see KB04789.
- For each BlackBerry Enterprise Server service, do the following:
- Open the Properties window and change the Startup type to Manual.
- Click the Log On tab, and in the Log on as section, record the account name from the This account field.
Warning: For the BlackBerry Attachment Service, always log in with the Local System Account. Do not change this setting.
- Close the Services window and the Control Panel.
- Make sure you are logged in to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server using the account specified for BlackBerry Enterprise Server services.
- Double-click setup.exe to start the installation.
- After the installation process is complete, you must complete the BlackBerry Configuration Database wizard.
- Make sure that all the fields in the BlackBerry Configuration Database wizard are complete and confirm that the pre-populated fields match the previous settings.
- With the Start Services option selected, click Finish. Note: If you plan on installing hotfixes for the service pack, clear the Start Services option before clicking Finish. Then, proceed with the Service Pack installation.
- In the Control Panel, go to Administrative Tools > Services.
- Confirm that all BlackBerry services are started. The startup type should now be set to Automatic.
- Open BlackBerry Manager.
- Confirm that the Server Routing Protocol (SRP) status is Connected.
