KB15204 - BlackBerry smartphone prompts the user with a message that includes 'rcp.na.blackberry.com'
Environment
- BlackBerry® smartphone
- Wi-Fi®
Overview
When attempting to connect to the BlackBerry® Infrastructure using a Wi-Fi enabled BlackBerry smartphone using a Wi-Fi network connection, the following error message appears:
You are attempting to open a secure connection, but the server's certificate has expired
You are provided with the following three options: Continue, Close Connection, and View Certificate. When you select the View Certificate option, the following certificate name appears:
rcp.na.blackberry.com.
Cause
The Wi-Fi network connection session has been cached, and the BlackBerry smartphone is using an expired blackberry.com certificate.
Resolution
Complete the following steps:
- Select Continue. Note: This error message may occur two more times. Each time, select the Continue option. If the error message appears more than two times, contact your next level of support, for example, your wireless carrier.
- Register the BlackBerry smartphone again.
To register the BlackBerry smartphone, follow the instructions in KB00510.
Additional Information
When the Continue option is selected, the BlackBerry smartphone will attempt to connect to the BlackBerry Infrastructure using the expired certificate. At this point, the BlackBerry Infrastructure recognizes that the certificate has expired and provides the BlackBerry smartphone with a new certificate. From this point forward, the BlackBerry smartphone will use the new certificate.
