KB17506 - The ETP.DAT message disappears from the mailbox, but the enterprise activation process stops during the activating stage
Environment
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server version 4.1 for Microsoft® Exchange
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server version 4.1 for IBM® Lotus® Domino®
Overview
The ETP.DAT email message is used in the enterprise activation process to verify and authenticate the BlackBerry smartphone.
During a successful activation, the appropriate BlackBerry Enterprise Server picks up and deletes the ETP.DAT email message, within seconds of its delivery, before contacting the BlackBerry smartphone to begin the activation.
The activation status should change from Activating … to Verifying Encryption.
When this problem occurs, the ETP.DAT email message disappears from the Inbox, but the Activating ... activation status that appears on the BlackBerry smartphone does not change.
Resolution
Cause 1
The BlackBerry Enterprise Server that picks up the ETP.DAT email message from the BlackBerry smartphone user’s mailbox uses a different BlackBerry Configuration Database and resides in a different BlackBerry Domain than the BlackBerry Enterprise Server that is expected to pick up the email message.
Resolution 1
Remove the BlackBerry smartphone user from the other BlackBerry Enterprise Server that is monitoring this mailbox.
Cause 2
An email message filter or rule is moving the ETP.DAT email message from the Inbox before the BlackBerry Enterprise Server can pick it up.
Resolution 2
Remove the email message filter or rule that is moving the ETP.DAT message from the mailbox.
