KB04521 - How to enable wireless Address Book and MemoPad synchronization in an IBM Lotus Domino environment
Environment
- BlackBerry® smartphone

- IBM® Lotus® Domino® 6.5
- IBM Lotus Notes® 6.5.x, 7.0.x, 8.0.x
- IBM Lotus Domino Web Access (formerly IBM® iNotes™)
Overview
A BlackBerry smartphone that has just been activated on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server is missing the Wireless Synchronization option for the Address Book, the MemoPad, or both, in BlackBerry Manager.
The BlackBerry smartphone Address Book and MemoPad synchronize with Contacts and Personal Journal in IBM Lotus Notes, and with Contacts and Notebook in Lotus Domino Web Access.
Resolution
Complete the steps for the appropriate environment:
Server-based replication using IBM Lotus Notes
- Create a subfolder for each BlackBerry smartphone user and name each subfolder as the BlackBerry smartphone user name in the Data directory. For example, C:\Lotus\Domino\Data\<Users full name>
- Replicate the Address Book and Personal Journal of each BlackBerry smartphone user to the appropriate subfolder on the IBM Lotus Domino messaging server. For example, <User's full name>\names.nsf and <User's full name>\journal.nsf.
- Create a replication schedule for each BlackBerry smartphone user's Address Book and Personal Journal.
- Complete the steps outlined below in the Configuring BlackBerry Manager section of this article.
Note: Any changes the BlackBerry smartphone user makes on the BlackBerry smartphone or in the mail client will only synchronize once the databases are replicated on the messaging server.
Synchronizing IBM Lotus Domino Web Access users
- Synchronize the BlackBerry smartphone user's mail files using the IBM Lotus Domino Sync Manager.
- Complete the steps outlined below in the Configuring BlackBerry Manager section of this article.
Note: To synchronize IBM Lotus Domino Web Access users, the User ID file must be on the hard disk drive.
Configuring roaming settings for IBM Lotus Notes users
During registration as a roaming BlackBerry smartphone user, or when roaming is enabled, a roaming folder is created by default in the Lotus Domino Data folder. This folder contains the roaming databases.
- Create a subfolder for each BlackBerry smartphone user in the roaming folder. For example, C:\Lotus\Domino\Data\roaming\<User's full name>
- Duplicate the BlackBerry smartphone user's Address Book, Personal Journal, and Bookmarks to the roaming folder on the messaging server. For example, roaming\<User's full name>\names.nsf and roaming\<User's full name>\journal.nsf.
- Create a replication schedule.
- Verify that the settings on the Roaming tab in the BlackBerry smartphone user's Person document match the information for the BlackBerry smartphone user's subfolder, Personal Address Book, Bookmarks file name, and Journal file name.
- Complete the steps outlined below in the Configuring BlackBerry Manager section of this article.
Configuring BlackBerry Manager - In BlackBerry Manager, select the required BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
- Double-click the required BlackBerry smartphone user account, then click PIM Sync in the left panel.
- In the Location – Server field, for the BlackBerry smartphone user's Address Book and MemoPad items, type the BlackBerry Enterprise Server name, organizational unit, and organization in the following format:
CN=/OU=/O=
Note: The format is exactly as it appears under BlackBerry Domain, in the Explorer view in BlackBerry Manager.
- To enter correct information in the Location – Relative Path fields, refer to the table below:

- MemoPad: <User's full name>\journal.nsf
- BlackBerry smartphone user's subfolder files location on the Domino server: C:\Lotus\Domino\Data\<User's full name>

- MemoPad: mail\
- BlackBerry smartphone user's mail location on the Domino server: C:\Lotus\Domino\Data\mail\<User's full name>
| | Roaming BlackBerry smartphone users | - Address Book: roaming\<User's full name>\names.nsf
- MemoPad: roaming\<User's full name>\journal.nsf
- BlackBerry smartphone user's roaming files location on the Domino server: C:\Lotus\Domino\Data\roaming\<User's full name>
| Note: The path is always relative to the Lotus Domino Data directory.
Shortly after you complete the above fields, the Wireless Synchronization option should be available for the Address Book and MemoPad.
