KB17069 - Known issues with wireless BlackBerry Device Software upgrades and BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.1.4
Environment
* BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software version 4.1 Service Pack 4 (4.1.4)
* BlackBerry® Professional Software 4.1 Service Pack 4 (4.1.4)
* Wireless BlackBerry® Device Software upgrades
Overview
The following known issues exist when using BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.1.4 and attempting to manage wireless BlackBerry Device Software upgrades:
1. If the BlackBerry Enterprise Server administrator chooses to do a mandatory upgrade, it is kept at the default priority for the next time an upgrade is done by any BlackBerry Enterprise Server administrator. This could easily lead to a BlackBerry Enterprise Server sending a mandatory upgrade to one or more BlackBerry smartphones when they never intended to do so.
2. The BlackBerry Policy Server also uses the default priority set by a BlackBerry Enterprise Server administrator as mentioned in the previous item. If a BlackBerry smartphone user manually requests available BlackBerry Device Software upgrades, the BlackBerry Policy Server may actually send a mandatory upgrade. To avoid this issue, upgrades should never be set to mandatory if BlackBerry smartphone users are allowed to manually request updates.
3. Rollback details will not be received on the BlackBerry smartphone when a rollback is requested from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server using the BlackBerry Manager.
4. If a BlackBerry smartphone user has performed an upgrade and the Upgrade Status in the BlackBerry Manager for this BlackBerry smartphone user has information populated in it, commands such as, Resend Service Books, Wipe Handheld, Set Password and Lock Handheld, and Set Owner Information will not work on the BlackBerry smartphone.
5. When cancelling an upgrade request from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, BlackBerry Manager states the following message:
An Upgrade Software request failed to be queued for 1 user(s) and no upgrades were available for 0 user(s).
6. In BlackBerry Manager, approximate size of the download does not appear in the upgrade dialogue.
7. On closing, the BlackBerry Manager executable process (bbmgrw32.exe) still runs in the background; consecutive starts of the BlackBerry Manager leads to resource consumption.
8. Unexpected results can occur when an upgrade is requested by a BlackBerry smartphone user.
9. Upgrade requests sent with utf-8 characters in the description field is rejected by BlackBerry smartphones.
10. Upgrade requests sent with Chinese characters in the Enterprise Notation field does not reach BlackBerry smartphones.
