KB04808 - Past calendar entries are missing from BlackBerry smartphone after activation over the wireless network
Environment
- BlackBerry® Device Software 4.0 to 4.7
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software versions 4.0 to 4.1
- BlackBerry smartphone
Overview
After activating a BlackBerry smartphone on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server, some previous calendar entries in Microsoft® Outlook® are missing from the calendar on the BlackBerry smartphone.
Cause
By default, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server prepopulates the previous 30 days of calendar information, starting on the day of activation over the wireless network. Calendar entries before this time are not automatically transferred to the BlackBerry smartphone.
Resolution
To resolve this issue, complete the following tasks in sequence:
Task 1
Turn off wireless synchronization on the BlackBerry smartphone.
- From the BlackBerry smartphone, open the Calendar application.
- Open the Options menu.
- Click Wireless Synchronization, select Change Option, and select No.
- Click Save.
Task 2
BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.3 to 4.7
Configure the synchronization settings in BlackBerry® Desktop Manager 4.3 to 4.7 for wired calendar synchronization.
- Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer, and open BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
- Click Synchronize.
- Click the Synchronization link under Configure on the left side of the screen, and then click the Synchronization button.
- Select Calendar, and click Setup.
- Select Microsoft Outlook as a translator, and then click Next.
- Select Synchronization options, and then click Next.
- Choose the appropriate operation from the following list:
- Two way sync - This is the default option. All Calendar entries on the BlackBerry smartphone and in Microsoft® Outlook is synchronized
- One way sync from Device - Organizer data is transferred from the BlackBerry smartphone to Microsoft Outlook
- One way sync to Device - Organizer data is transferred from Microsoft Outlook to the BlackBerry smartphone
- If applicable, select Microsoft Outlook options.
- Select Transfer all scheduled items, and then click Next.
- Click Finish.
- Click OK to close the Device application window.
- Click the Synchronize link on the left side of the screen, and then click Synchronize.
BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.2.0 to 4.2.2
Configure the synchronization settings in BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.2 for wired calendar synchronization.
- Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer, and open BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
- Click Synchronize.
- Select the Configuration tab, and then click Configure synch.
- Select Calendar, and then click Choose.
- Select Microsoft Outlook as a translator, and then click OK.
- Choose the appropriate operation from the following list:
- Synchronize – This is the default option. All Calendar data on the BlackBerry smartphone and in Microsoft Outlook is synchronized
- Export – Organizer data is transferred from the BlackBerry smartphone to Microsoft Outlook.
- Import – Organizer data is transferred from Microsoft Outlook to the BlackBerry smartphone.
- If applicable, select Microsoft Outlook options.
- Select Transfer all scheduled items, and then click Next.
- Click OK.
- Click OK to close the Configuration window.
- Click the Synchronize tab, and then click Synchronize now.
BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.1 and earlier
Configure the Intellisync settings in BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.1 and earlier for wired calendar synchronization.
- Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer, and then open BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
- Click Intellisync.
- Click Configure PIM.
- Select the Calendar check box, and then click Choose.
- From the Available Applications list, select MS Outlook.
- Click Options, select the BlackBerry smartphone user profile and then click OK.
- Verify that your mailbox appears in the Folder Name field.
- Choose the appropriate operation from the following list:
- Synchronize - This is the default option. All organizer data on the BlackBerry smartphone and in Microsoft Outlook is synchronized.
- Export - Organizer data is transferred from the BlackBerry smartphone to Microsoft Outlook.
- Import - Organizer data is transferred from Microsoft Outlook to the BlackBerry smartphone.
- Click Configure and then select Advanced Settings.
- On the Date Range tab, configure to transfer all scheduled items, and then click OK.
- Click OK.
- Click Synchronize Now.
Task 3
Turn on wireless synchronization for the BlackBerry smartphone.
- In BlackBerry Desktop Manager, click Intellisync.
- Click Configure PIM.
- Select the Calendar check box, and then click Choose.
- From the Available Applications list, select BlackBerry Wireless Sync, and click OK.
Additional Information
Current recurring calendar entries are an exception to this issue and must remain on the BlackBerry smartphone as a series. Recurring calendar entries will display before the 30-day default setting.
