Environment
- BlackBerry® Device Software 3.7 and earlier
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software version 4.0 and later for Microsoft® Exchange
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software version 4.0 and later for IBM® Lotus® Domino®
- BlackBerry smartphone
Overview
The following error message appears on the BlackBerry smartphone during the enterprise activation process:
Activation error: Contact Service Administrator
Cause
The BlackBerry smartphone is activated on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server that is set to accept the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES); however, the BlackBerry smartphone is running BlackBerry Device Software 3.7 or earlier, which supports only the Triple Data Encryption Standard (Triple DES).
Resolution
Perform one of the resolutions below.
Resolution 1
Install BlackBerry Device Software 4.0 or later on the BlackBerry smartphone.
Resolution 2
Configure the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to support Triple DES.
Resolution 3
Move the BlackBerry smartphone user account to a BlackBerry Enterprise Server that supports Triple DES.
