Default KB04861 - Enterprise Service Policy

KB04861 - Enterprise Service Policy

Environment

  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software version 4.1
  • BlackBerry device

Overview

The Enterprise Service Policy controls which BlackBerry devices are allowed service on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. This policy is disabled by default.
Four whitelists, described in the table below, determine whether a BlackBerry device is allowed service. If the Enterprise Service Policy is enabled, any BlackBerry device not on a whitelist is not allowed service on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
Whitelist Desciption
Personal Identification Numbers (PIN) Specifies the specific PINs that are authorized for BlackBerry Enterprise Server service.
PIN Range Specifies the PIN ranges of the BlackBerry devices that are authorized for BlackBerry Enterprise Server service.

Manufacturer Specifies the manufacturer of the BlackBerry devices that are authorized for BlackBerry Enterprise Server service.

Model Specifies the models of the BlackBerry devices that are authorized for BlackBerry Enterprise Server service.

Whitelist Checking
If the Enterprise Service Policy is enabled, whitelist checking occurs during the following events:
  • Enterprise activation
  • BlackBerry Enterprise Server start up
  • Whitelist modifications
When an unauthorized device is detected, the PIN is reset and the device is excluded from service.

Note: If the device meets any of the whitelists, it will allow the activation. For example, if you do not wish to allow BlackBerry 8100 smartphones, you will only want to use the whitelist for Model. Remove the selection for Manufacturer.

Additional Information

For instructions on enabling the Enterprise Service Policy, please see the System Administration Guide. The guides are organized by platform and version in the Product Documentation section of the BlackBerry Technical Solution Center.
