KB03674 - How to set up an enterprise activation
KB03674 - How to set up an enterprise activation
Environment
- BlackBerry® Device Software version 2.7a, 4.0 to 4.7
- BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.0 to 4.1
- BlackBerry smartphones
Overview
Complete the following sections to set up an enterprise activation.
Important: Anti-virus applications, firewalls, or email message filters (such as rules and spam email message filters) may interfere with the enterprise activation process. If the enterprise activation message is deleted, modified, blocked from being delivered to the inbox or moved to a folder other than the BlackBerry smartphone user's inbox, the enterprise activation process will fail.
Section 1 - Enterprise Activation Password Creation
To set the enterprise activation password, complete the appropriate steps for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server version.
BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.1
Please see article KB10636 for instructions on how to set the enterprise activation password for BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.1.
BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.0
The BlackBerry Enterprise Server administrator must create a temporary wireless activation password in BlackBerry Desktop Manager. The following are ways to create the temporary password:
- Set the password on the General tab of the <user_name> Properties screen (see example image below). The BlackBerry Enterprise Server administrator communicates the password to the BlackBerry smartphone user.

- Create the password automatically by right-clicking the BlackBerry smartphone user account, and then clicking Generate and Email Activation Password. The password is sent automatically to the BlackBerry smartphone user's email address.

Section 2 - Initiate the enterprise activation process
To initiate the enterprise activation process, the BlackBerry smartphone user must perform the following tasks:
- On the BlackBerry smartphone Home screen, click Enterprise Activation. OR
Click Options > Advanced Options > Enterprise Activation.
- Type the email address and enterprise activation password. The password is set by the BlackBerry Enterprise Server administrator. Note: If the email address you typed does not match the current email address for the BlackBerry smartphone, or if the BlackBerry smartphone was previously activated on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, the BlackBerry smartphone user is prompted to erase the data on the BlackBerry smartphone.
- Press the Menu key and click Activate to start the enterprise activation process. The BlackBerry smartphone will send an email to the request address and show the progress of the activation on the BlackBerry smartphone.
Additional Information
To perform a wireless enterprise activation, refer to the Enabling wireless enterprise activation section of the BlackBerry Wireless Enterprise Activation Technical Overview white paper. (Also attached to this post)
