Default KB17252 - Contacts are removed from the smartphone during an Address reconciliation

KB17252 - Contacts are removed from the BlackBerry smartphone during an Address Book reconciliation process

Environment

  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software version 4.1 Service Pack 4 (4.1.4) to 4.1 Service Pack 6 (4.1.6) for Novell® GroupWise®
  • SDR281930

Overview

Following an Address Book reconciliation process, a large number of contacts may be deleted from the BlackBerry smartphone.

The Address Book reconciliation process runs on a nightly basis for all BlackBerry smartphone users on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. After the reconciliation for a BlackBerry smartphone user fewer contacts may be reported in the Novell GroupWise Address Book than the BlackBerry smartphone Address Book. The missing contacts are then removed from the BlackBerry smartphone.

In most circumstances, the Address Book reconciliation that runs for the affected BlackBerry smartphone user on the following night will correct the issue. This has generally affected BlackBerry smartphone users with large Novell GroupWise Address Books (For example, 1000 or more Contacts).

Resolution

This is a previously reported issue that has been escalated internally to our development team. No resolution time frame is currently available.

Workaround

To work around this issue, avoid using Frequent Contacts as the Subscribed BlackBerry Address Book and limit the amount of contacts in a BlackBerry user's Personal GroupWise Address book.

Allowing the subsequent Address Book reconciliation to run on the following night should also resolve the issue.
