Default KB13185 - Calendar synchronization fails from Microsoft Outlook to the BlackBerry

KB13185 - Calendar synchronization fails from Microsoft Outlook to the BlackBerry smartphone when Message Redirection is disabled

Environment

  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software version 4.0 to 4.1 for Microsoft® Exchange

Overview

When Message Redirection is disabled for a BlackBerry smartphone user, calendar entries entered in Microsoft® Outlook® do not synchronize to the BlackBerry smartphone. However, calendar entries entered on the BlackBerry smartphone do synchronize to Outlook.
The calendar is completely synchronized during the enterprise activation process, or if Wireless Synchronization is set to No, then back to Yes, forcing a Slow Synchronization.

Cause

Disabling Message Redirection prevents the BlackBerry Enterprise Server from receiving notifications of new calendar entries.

Resolution

Enable Message Redirection for the BlackBerry smartphone. If necessary, set up a BlackBerry smartphone filter to prevent the BlackBerry smartphone user from receiving email messages on the BlackBerry smartphone.
For BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.0
  1. Open BlackBerry Manager.
  2. Select the BlackBerry Enterprise Server that the BlackBerry smartphone user is on.
  3. Complete one of the following:
    • Right-click the BlackBerry smartphone user and click Enable Redirection.
    OR
    1. Double-click the BlackBerry smartphone user. The Properties dialog box appears.
    2. Click the Redirection tab.
    3. In the Message Forwarding section, check the Redirect incoming messages to user’s handheld box
For BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.1
  1. Open BlackBerry Manager.
  2. Select the BlackBerry Enterprise Server that the BlackBerry smartphone user is on.
  3. Select the BlackBerry smartphone user and click Edit Properties.
  4. Highlight the Redirection property.
  5. In the Message Forwarding section, set the Redirect to BlackBerry option to True.
  6. Click Apply and OK.
