KB04296 - Move from a local to a remote attachment server

Environment

* BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software version 4.0 and 4.1

Procedure

If you run the BlackBerry Attachment Service on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server and you want to move the service to a remote computer with the same software version, complete the following tasks:

On the remote server

1. Click Start > Run and type regedit to open the Registry Editor.
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Research In Motion\BBattachServer\BBAttachBESExtension, and then double-click AllowRemoteServices.
3. Change the Value data field entry to 1 and then click OK.
4. Close the Registry Editor and then restart the BlackBerry Attachment Service.

On the local server

1. On the BlackBerry Server Configuration Panel, select the Attachment Server tab.
2. In the Attachment Host field, type the host name of the new attachment server and then click OK.
3. Using the Configuration Option drop-down, select Test Attachment Service and run the conversion test to verify that the new server is successful at converting attachments.
4. Restart the BlackBerry Dispatcher service to use the new configuration settings.

Important: Restarting certain BlackBerry Enterprise Server services will delay email message delivery to BlackBerry smartphones. For more information, see KB04789.
