I currently have a BB Bold 9000 on vodafone. This is a BIS email address mobileemail.vodafone.net. for some strange reason I receive some email (not all the time) which replaces the attachment with a winmail.dat file.

I have done some research into this and it looks like it has something to do with the fact that the BB handset isnt associated with an outlook client. I have read that the cause of this has something to do with Rich Text Format, and blackberry not being able to read it.

Please, can someone help here, Is there any way of stopping this Bold from receiving the files as winmail.dat????:

hi gpalmer...i believe you need to change the settings on your outlook client (I'm not an outlook person)...go to tools, account settings. The part where the mail format should be set as, instead of Rich Text Format, use Text or ASCII only...it should work...

Unfortunately the person sending emails is sending a group email to many recipients and he cant change it as it would affect others. I know I wouldnt have this issue if my users BB was associated with an outlook client.

I was hoping to resolve this issue from the blackberry end.

I know that problem well - it is because the Exchange Server (likely 2003) is sending the email in Exchange Rich Text format, which shows up as a winmail.dat attachment on a non-Outlook client or BlackBerry (although BIS/BES usually converts it first). The best way to solve it is to contact your Exchange Administrator and tell them to uncheck "Use Exchange Rich Text" in the properties of your mailbox user account. Alternatively, if you are using BIS and sending email from Outlook, simply use HTML or Text format when sending the email. Hope this helps. Jason.
