Don't get me wrong, I love using my BlackBerry on Wi-Fi for faster browsing and dealing with sending and receiving large attachments, but I'd never use it out of concern for data usage.

The benefit of Wi-Fi abroad for some US-based users is the use of T-Mobile's UMA service. International roaming fees for data and voice become a non-issue, which is quite awesome (although they did lower their rates across the board should Wi-Fi access not be accessible).
